Travel Diary: Malibu Dream Airstream

Sometimes when I'm having a bout of wanderlust I peruse Airbnb for magical properties both in LA and abroad.  My Airbnb "dream vacay" wishlist has turned in to a bucket list of sorts and a perfect place to turn to when in need of special celebration spot.

Rewind to last week when Andy and I realized our 4th anniversary was upon us and had no idea what to do. Going away for the weekend after traveling for the last 10 weeks seemed a little aggressive, but a one night staycation seemed more manageable.  Enter my Airbnb wishlist and the Malibu Dream Airstream that just so happened to be available for ONE night over the next few weeks and it was our anniversary night. I've been dreaming about staying at and instramming the sh*t out of the Airstream since the day I laid my eyes on it over a year ago. All my IG dreams came true this weekend!

For those of you eager to book, read my tips and suggestions below. There's a few things I wish I would've done differently to make it a perfect experience!

Weather: We were SUPER lucky with the weather. The airstream has no heat or AC, so if you're planning to book make sure to look at the weather. We checked in around 4pm on an 80 degree day and it's safe to say the airstream was BOILING. It was a great excuse to hangout outside and enjoy the INSANE view and after a few hours and opening all the doors, the airstream cooled down to a manageable temp. I can imagine it being extremely cold at night on cooler fall/winter days.

Location/ Glamping?: This is camping friends. I love a good glamping moment and while the airstream looks super fancy, it's really just a tricked out trailer. It's also located in a very remote area of Malibu that takes about 15 minutes up pretty windy dirt roads to get to. For any city folk, not a road you would want to drive on in the dark. When the sun goes down there is VERY minimal light in the airstream, however, they provide you with tons of candles that make it super romantic! The airstream does have a working stove, but the refrigerator and freezer do not work very well (ie: don't put perishables in there).

What we should've brought:
- lantern and flash lights
- ice chest with food and beverages
- portable grill
- fire wood to build an evening fire
- saved offline spotify playlist
- extra portable iPhone charger

No matter what, you can't go wrong with the view and the beauty of nature. I was super bummed at myself for not packing us an ice chest and thinking ahead about the food situation. It's not that we weren't prepared, we were just prepared to go have dinner off PCH in Malibu and soon realized on our drive that driving back down and up the dirt road was NOT going to happen at night, especially after enjoying a cocktail at dinner. We made a game time decision and drove down the hill to Neptune's Net and got some fish + chips to go and drove straight back up the hill to catch the sunset then parked our butts there for the rest of the evening.

After a few glasses of wine, star gazing (you guys, SO many stars), a game of battleship (I won!), and some evening reading, we turned down pretty early. It seems like 1am at 9pm when there's not a single source of light but omg it's relaxing AF. It worked out perfectly because the second the sun started to rise we were up and at 'em. Watching the sunrise from bed was magical!

Hope you guys had an amazing weekend! Lots of Qs on IG about my dress. It's Reformation from earlier this year but here are two similar styles: wooster dress and winslow dress. I've also linked to a few dresses fit for a dream Malibu staycation below!
